P.G. Department of Food and Nutrition, Bishop Heber College, Trichy organized a one-day capacity building national webinar on “Emerging trends, growth, opportunities and future in food processing sectors.” The aim of the webinar was to bring professionals from food processing sectors, giving them opportunity to listen and interact with the leaders of the field, thus enriching young minds and motivate them in stepping forward towards bright future. The webinar was inaugurated by Dr. K. Alagusundaram (Deputy Director General, Agricultural Engineering), Indian Council of Agricultural Research, Ministry of Agriculure and Farmer’s welfare, Government of India. His speech concentrated on the immense opportunities available in our country in the food processing sectors and he addressed our students about the natural resources available in our country with a positive note. The inaugural session was presided over by Dr. Paul Dayabaran, Principal, Bishop Heber College, Trichy. The second session was chaired by Dr. B. Sundaramoorthi (Dean, Tamilnadu J. Jayalalitha Fisheries University) gave an elaborate lecture on “Trends of seafood processing.” His lecture was lively and he interacted with the participants and answered their questions. The resource person of the third session was Dr. Sanjaya K. Dash address whose topic was “Post harvest management and entrepreneurship in food processing.” His lecture was very enlightening and clear. Students got an in-depth understanding of the Post harvest techniques in cereal processing and fruit and vegetable processing. The participants took part actively and interacted well with the resource person, who addressed the queries with clarity. The final session was addressed by Dr. S. Uma (Director, National Research Centre for Banana, Trichy).
