Tiruchirappalli is a city in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and the administrative headquarters of Tiruchirappalli District. It is the fourth largest municipal corporation in Tamil Nadu and also the fourth largest urban agglomeration in the state. Situated at a distance of 325 kilometers south of Chennai and 402 kilometers (250 mi) north of Kanyakumari on the National Highway NH 45, it is located almost at the geographic centre of the state. The city is believed to be of significant antiquity and has been ruled by the Early Cholas, Early Pandyas, Pallavas, Medieval Cholas, Later Cholas, Later Pandyas, Delhi Sultanate, Ma’bar Sultanate, Vijayanagar Empire, Nayak Dynasty, the Caranatic state and the British at different times. Tiruchirappalli is an important industrial and educational hub of central Tamil Nadu. During the summer months of March to May, Tiruchirappalli is extremely hot and dry during daytime. However, the evenings are rendered cool by the cold winds that blow from the south – east. It is quite sultry during September and October by cool and pleasant from November to February.
