The course has been designed in such a way as to meet the urgent man-power needs of industries, local bodies and other related agencies which require skilled personnel for their laboratories who will efficiently carry out the routine laboratory analysis, research and development work and also attend to pollution monitoring and management and environmental health problems.

Just an Introduction..

Bishop Heber College, one of the affiliated Colleges of Bharathidasan University, Tamil Nadu, has been offering a 2-year Post-Graduate Programme (M.Sc.) of Environmental Sciences from the academic year 1984-'85 and the first set of environmental scientists graduated in June 1986. This unique P.G. Programme, the first of its kind in South India, is an inter-disciplinary course involving the disciplines of Chemistry, Physics, Zoology and Botany

The Environmental Sciences programme is interdisciplinary involving the expertise also of the faculties of the departments of Botany, Chemistry, Zoology, Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science leading to the Degree of Master of Science.

Students of this program find opportunities in the research and development cells of environmental interests and environmental engineering, economics, management, information and communication services, eco-tourism and environmental law.

Our students have expert training in all the usual analytical procedures adopted in Industrial and research laboratories. They have the knowledge and the experience to extend the analytical procedures to suit the changing and varied needs of modern industries with additional skill of monitoring and controlling pollution.
