About

The study of women, gender, and sexuality is central in every field of knowledge today, from the study of politics and society to biology and medicine. Centre for Gender Studies seeks to study questions of gender in an interdisciplinary and comparative framework, thereby providing the space for creating a vibrant community of academics, students, activists and artists beyond gender binaries, who are concerned with issues of gender, sexuality and wider issues of power in society. The Centre, since its inception, through its Women’s Cell, Sadhana, and through Gender Sensitization Club of the college, organizes lectures, workshops, seminars, faculty development programs as well as outreach activities, to fulfil the objective of gender sensitization both on and off the campus. The center also offers a value added course on Women Empowerment and plans to offer a course on Gender Inclusivity in the next academic year. It intends to improvise and become a department of Gender Studies and a Centre for Research in its subsequent phase. It helps in teaching mandatory Gender Studies course which is offered in the final year under graduate programme.

Vision

The center envisions a women-centred and interdisciplinary approach to the changing nature of both women's experiences and gender relations. It also aims at strengthening and advancing feminist pedagogy and fostering links between academic research, and socio-political movements for gender equality, equity and social justice.

Mission

To bring attentiveness about women issues among academics in general and transformation in the society through ‘teaching, research and outreach’ which is beyond gender binary thinking.
