About Department

The Post Graduate & Research Dept. of Library and Information Science came into being in the year 1983. The Dept. had been offering B.Sc. Library and Information Science, the first of its kind in the country till 1992. The same year saw the starting of the two-year integrated Master’s Degree Programme-MLIS. Soon the Dept. introduced Part-Time and Full-Time M.Phil. and Ph.D. Programmes. The Dept. celebrated its Silver Jubilee in the year 2009. The Dept. along with its Alumni body-AALIS has been organising National Conferences every year on recent trends in the field since 2002.

To mould young men and women into efficient Library and Informational Professionals who can meet the challenges and opportunities with dignity and maturity thereby serving humanity.

Our Mission

To equip students, who come from diverse backgrounds, with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to practice Library and Information Profession with a global perspective.

Objectives

• To help the students to acquire the required skills with quality and creativity and excel themselves in their careers.
• To train the young minds to take up any position in Libraries and Information Centers of varied categories.
