About the Department – an overview The Department of Mathematics has been functioning right from the revival of the College in 1966 and is celebrating its Golden Jubilee along with the College. It was recognized as a ‘research centre’ in 1986 when it started offering M.Phil. programme. Now it is a full-fledged Department offering Under Graduate and Post Graduate programmes in both Aided and Self-Finance streams and research programmes leading to M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees. Apart from these conventional programmes, the Department offers Skill oriented Certificate Programmes in ‘LaTeX’ and ‘R’.
There is a committed band of Teachers engaged in the mission of training the young men and women to achieve the vision of the Department. There are 8 teachers in the Aided-section and 31 in the section supported by the management.

The Department offers an integrated model curriculum in both the Under Graduate and Post Graduate Programmes comprising of about 13 core courses, supportive allied and elective courses, skill oriented courses and value oriented courses. In the recent past, few students participated in the Students’ exchange programme with the Appalachian State University, USA. Our students actively participate in Advanced Training camps in Mathematics, Republic Day parades, Inter-collegiate competitions and Social welfare projects through the clubs for Extension activities. Every year, they secure University ranks, clear national and state level eligibility tests for teaching and research.
The senior and young scientists in the department have different thrust areas of research which include, Numerical Analysis for Singular Perturbations Problems, Fuzzy Differential Equations, Numerical Methods for Differential Equations, Manpower planning, Operations Research and Graph Theory. A team of teachers are in International Research Collaboration for the past 10 years. In the last two UGC plan periods two minor research projects were completed and five more are in the completion stage.
