B. Sc. Environmental Sciences is an interdisciplinary programme involving the expertise of the faculties of Botany, Zoology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Sciences to the Degree of Bachelor of Science.

The structure of the curriculum has been designed in such a way that the students would learn about the environmental issues and its management with the following objectives:

  • To understand the basic components of environment
  • To evaluate the status of environment
  • To assess the impact of anthropogenic activities on environment
  • To learn about the legal implications on various environmental issues
  • To mitigate the environmental problems and

Objectives of the Programme

The Programme has been designed in such a way to meet the man power needs of industries, government and non – government agencies, research organizations and academic institutions with the following objectives:

  • To conserve the natural environment

Ph.D.(Environmental Science)[(Full-Time & Part – Time)]

  • Monitoring and Evaluation of current environmental status with reference to Ecology, Water, Air, Noise, Soil, Climate etc.,
  • Development of methods/procedures/for mitigation / minimization of environmental pollution / degradation
  • Environmental Management through Legislation/Environmental Management System , Environmental Impact Assessment, Environmental Information Systems etc.,

PG Diploma in Industrial Safety

The objective of the programme is to enable a person to acquire the knowledge, skills,and perspective necessary to contribute effectively to the industrial safety function in alarge/medium- scale industrial establishment.

With the advent of globalization, safety of personnel at industrial sites has rightlyacquired importance on par with quality and timely delivery. Safety does not mean avoidance orprevention of accidents but included the equally salient aspects of health and environment. Theconcept of safety goes beyond an individual’s well-being to encompass the welfare of one’s family and the environment that sustain us.

It is on account of this realization that globally safety has come to play a major role in theevaluation and ranking of organization.

Nowadays, Qualified Safety officers are much in demand and well qualified professional Safety officers are in shortage for Multi-National Companies. For this reason, Department ofEnvironmental Sciences, Bishop Heber College collaborated with Bharat Heavy ElectricalsLimited (BHEL), Trichy and started this Programme

CAREERS IN INDUSTRIAL SAFETY

Industrial Safety is counter measure crucial in any hazardous plants or any other type of industrial undertakings. The idea is to protect against physical, social, financial, occupational orother types of consequences of failure, damage, accidents, harm or any other event which could be considered non-desirable.

The basic eligibility would be a Bachelor’s Degree in any subject.
