Historical Background & Milestones

The Centre for Indian & Foreign Languages (CIFL) at Bishop Heber College is a vibrant academic hub dedicated to multilingual education and cultural enrichment. The Centre offers Hindi 🇮🇳, Sanskrit 🇮🇳, and French 🇫🇷 as Part I languages for undergraduate students. Additionally, it provides Diploma and Certificate Courses (A, B, C Levels) in German 🇩🇪 and Japanese 🇯🇵, equipping learners with globally relevant language skills and enhancing employability.


Historical Background & Milestones

The Centre has evolved from the Departments of French (1988), Hindi (1988), and Sanskrit (1991), which functioned independently for decades. In 2020, they were unified as the Department of Other Languages (OL). Responding to global academic needs, the institution established the Centre for Indian & Foreign Languages in 2022.




Course Objectives, Vision and Mission

The Centre promotes linguistic diversity and cultural awareness while nurturing critical and creative thinking. It aims to develop responsible global citizens with strong communication skills.




Pedagogy/ Curricular/ Instructional Patterns:

The Centre adopts ICT-enabled teaching with interactive methods such as group discussions, seminars, quizzes, and creative activities. It emphasizes Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing (LSRW) skills.




Infrastructure

The Centre is equipped with smart classrooms, Wi-Fi, LCD projectors, and modern learning resources, ensuring a conducive learning environment.

The Department of Hindi promotes Hindi as a widely spoken national language, enhancing communication skills and cultural understanding. It develops critical thinking and supports national integration.
