About

The HRSDC is a Centre of Excellence functioning under the Deanery of Extension Activities in collaboration with Department of Botany and Zoology. Around 10 kilometres from the main campus of BHC, the CSI Retreat centre on the Cauvery River's banks at Murungappettai is where HRSDC is housed. The centre will serve as an incubation and outbound learning unit for BHC and other Institutions' students, with options for student internships and skill-building training for entrepreneurship development. It will also offer training in sustainable livelihoods to the rural community from Bishop Heber College's adapted villages. The irrigation/fertigation facility for Horticultural crops receives its electricity from a Hybrid (solar and wind) renewable energy unit, which also powers the center's lighting

Hybrid (Solar and Wind) renewable energy unit

Energy that is environmentally friendly is becoming important today. One of the known solutions to it is the conversion of solar energy into a useful form like DC. Solar energy is transformed into useful energy through the use of solar panels with solar cell power. Saanvi Solar Panels are effective and durable products. They support the production of useful energy for commercial, residential, and residential applications. Solar power generation, solar lighting, solar water heating systems, solar space heating systems, and many other platforms for energy conversion all depend on solar panels. Our ability to produce and store electricity is aided by the use of solar panels, solar inverters, and solar batteries. The current 2 KW 6 Panel Solar Panel Mounting Structure is a strong, effective product with a high capacity and efficiency. These solar panels can be used for a variety of off-grid applications and are composed of high-quality materials. At Mrungapettai, there is a hybrid large-scale local power generator that combines a solar mounting structure and a 2 KW wind turbine mounted on a tripod.

The center houses the following facilities:

  • Low cost Banana sucker production cum training unit – established under Know How and Transfer of Technology (KH TOT) from ICAR NRCB through Institute Technology Management Unit (ITMU), Thiruchirappalli.
  • Azola – bio fertilizer production cum training unit
  • Hybrid Renewable Energy unit
  • Horticulture training facility – Training on precision farming.
  • Mushroom production and training unit
  • Apiary – Honey production and training unit in Collaboration with Kamala Natural Honey Bee Farm
  • Compost yard
  • Fish culture
  • Integrated farming
  • Biblical Garden – Specialized garden housing biblical plants
