About

The Centre for Life Skill Education is an outcome of the recommendations of World Health organization (WHO) which has identified 10 core skills as life skills. Life Skills are the abilities for adaptive and positive behavior that enables individuals to deal effectively with the demands and challenges of everyday life across cultures (WHO, 1997). The need to introduce Life Skills education has also been recognized in the New Educational Policy (NEP) 2020, which makes a pressing call for the skills to be taught in colleges to prepare the youth for the future. Focusing on building life skills in the next generation is imperative to enable them handle different situations capably.

Thus Centre for Life Skills Education inculcates students with a set of basic skills acquired through learning and/or direct life experience that enable them individually and as a group to effectively handle issues and problems commonly encountered in their daily life. The skills include creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, decision-making, the ability to communicate and collaborate, along with personal and social responsibility that contribute to good citizenship – all essential skills for both healthy societies and for successful and employable individuals.

In Bishop Heber College, Life Skills as a course was implemented from the year 2017. Every academic year, the course is run for students pursuing their second year of under graduate programs during their IV semester.
