The term "beautiful writing" is what the popular term "calligraphy," a form of writing, actually signifies. Calligraphy is a creative art form where beauty, uniqueness, and effect are valued over clarity and speed of writing. Pen, brush, or other writing tools can be used for lettering design and execution. People often refer to Bishop Heber College as "Beauty Bishop" because of its picturesque surroundings. The calligraphy certificate programme was launched on campus in 2008 with the help of our former principal, Dr. M. Marcus Diepen Boominathan, and the then-Bursar, Dr. D. Joseph Anbarasu. Mr. K. Philip Meshok, an Assistant Professor of Calligraphy and alumnus of the College, successfully spearheaded the initiative to improve the aesthetics of the handwriting of the freshmen and the other college students too. The programme, which began informally with a small group of on-campus students, is now available to anyone beyond the institution. Every year, a surprisingly large number of high school students, college students from other institutions, and individuals of various ages eagerly enrolled themselves for the programme. 2019 saw the beginning and successful completion of the Diploma in Calligraphy programme.
To provide students with a supportive environment for creative expression and assist them in gaining from the regular observation and evaluation of their classroom activities, allowing them to flourish in this field of art and profit by passing along their knowledge to others.
