Post Graduate Programme


Career-oriented courses such as English Language Teaching, Journalism, Writing for the Mass Media and Translation Studies designed with a mandatory practical component are also run, alongside the conventional programmes. Specially designed courses like Modern Literatures, New Literature, Literary Criticism, Research Methodology, Ecocriticism, Women's Writings, etc., are offered as core courses along with need-based Extra-Disciplinary courses in "Communication Skills" and "Writing for the Media." Courses of current social relevance such as "Eco-Literature" and "Women’s Writing", at the Post-Graduate level, offers greater insight and impetus to students desirous of intellectually encountering the two creative and sustaining principles of excellence in life-elemental nature and matriarchy or female nurture.

The two-year programme, Master of Arts in History intends to provide a thorough understanding of historical concepts, theories, sources, perspectives and methodology. It also aims to familiarize students with the developments in Indian History and World History. The course structure is designed meticulously to address the need of both traditional and applied aspects of historical study and diversified career objectives. The implementation of choice-based credit system facilitates students to pursue their interests and to select their specialization from varieties of courses and subject-specific electives. The objective of the course is to impart exhaustive knowledge and training with the thrust area of Finance. It also provides a blend of theoretical and practical exposure through Individual Research Projects, Summer Internship and Industrial Visits. Students are stimulated to present papers and publish articles inorder to enrich their potential. The Curriculum is designed with unique courses like Financial Engineering, Securities Analysis and Portfolio Management, Project Appraisal and Project Control and Global Financial Management to facilitate students to be placed in Blue chip Companies.

MSW Clinical Social Work Specialization (2 Years)

The specialization in clinical social work, also often referred to as Medical and Psychiatric Social Work specialization, generally prepares students for more advanced study on assessment, diagnosis and treatment of mental illness and psychological disorders and the treatment of relationship and family problems. Clinical social workers are employed in settings such as private practice, mental health clinics, hospitals and community centers.

MSW Community Development Management Specialization (2 Years)

The Community Development Management Specialization offers education that equips the students with knowledge about developmental areas concerned with rural, tribal and urban communities and develops skills to interact with them at various levels.

MSW Human Resource Management Specialization (2 Years)

Formerly referred to as “Personnel Management and Industrial Relations” offers intensive learning in Labour welfare, personnel Management and Industrial Relations as well as exposure to Human Resource Management and Organizational Development. The Specialization familiarizes students with social work practice and social welfare services and policies. Students learn how to work with various types of groups, explore common social issues and examine the types of social welfare programs. They also study human behavior and development and the dynamics of individuals, groups and their communities.

This program never loses sight in aiming to enlighten students on how to make managerial decisions. The program is founded on the belief that the fundamental requirements of a managerial job is to make effective decisions with both academic knowledge and practical exposure, which understands the ground realities facing the present corporate world. This program gives ample scope for the students to specialize in their area of choice like marketing, finance, human resource and systems

Bishop Heber College is the first college in Asia to offer this programme. The programme has been specially designed to reduce the time to qualify as an Actuary. The CT series of the Actuarial papers of Actuaries, U.K., included in the curriculum are,

This P. G. Programme consists of 4 semesters. In the first two semesters students are exposed to a detailed study of the environment and in the next two semesters they study environmental pollution and its monitoring and management at all levels. The curriculum involves visits by the students to various industrial laboratories and research institutions to get practical knowledge of laboratory techniques and procedures with special reference to effluent treatment and air pollution control. Students undertake research work in applied aspects as part of their degree programme.

This two year programme includes core areas of Information Technology such as Data structures, Algorithms, Communication Networking, Distributed and Relational Database Management Systems, Operating Systems and Multimedia System Design. In addition, it also incorporates recent developments in Information Technology such as Web-Technology, Mobile Computing, Information and Network Security, Nano Technology and programming technologies such as XML, J2EE and .NET. The project work in the final semester provides industrial experience in software development.

The Post-Graduate programme leading to the M.Sc.degree in Mathematics has been offered by the Department since 1978 in the Aided section and from 2006 in the Self-Financed section.

This programme provides an in-depth knowledge in the core and applied Mathematics with a project work as an initiative to research. The content of each course is chosen so as to enable the students to clear the professional screening examinations of National level or to take up research anywhere across the globe or to enter into the IT sector.

The freedom to specialise or maintain breadth in the field of Zoology and the range of research, M.Sc., Zoology, course was started in the year 2012. The programme has been designed to offer several innovative subjects at the Post Graduate level likeAnimal behaviour, Animal Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Nanotechnology andResearch Methodology. These subjects are catered to students by remarkable range of the faculty’s expertise and interests. This comprehensive curriculum which encompasses the CSIR NET syllabus enables students to appear for competitive exams conducted by various research Institutions.

Well established lab facilities engage students to undergo their projects within the campus. Visits to Industrial and Research Institutes has made students to develop interest in the diverse field of zoology.The department’s link with various organisations has galvanised the course outcome.
